The Olympians are not the only ones going for gold this year. Gold versus silver is a debate that has been around for years. While silver has dominated in the past several years, gold has been giving silver a run for its money. Gold jeans and sweaters have been seen around the runway this season, but I was thinking of a more subtle approach - the gold apparel you can wear everyday without any objections. So here are a few gold must have accessories.
The Boyfriend Watch
A large gold, rose gold, or even a two toned watch is the first of the gold must haves. The ultimate watch is a Rolex, of course. But what college kid has the money for that? The next best is Michael Kors. But again, it’s not exactly pocket change. I would even be okay with you settling with a generic gold watch from your local Hand Picked or Francesca’s. In my opinion spending a little more on something you know you’re going to wear almost everyday, is worth it. The gold watch is the perfect touch to an outfit. It’s big enough to draw attention but does not take away from an outfit. And like I say in almost every article, the bigger the better. This black and gold Michael Kors is most definitely lust worthy.
Nail Polish
You need a gold nail polish that may often be mistaken for 14K gold. Classy but never over the top, it almost looks nude. But when it hits the light just right, the gold will give off a beautiful shine. It never clashes, even if you’re wearing silver jewelry. Also, it will never take away from an outfit but instead, add so much to it. This is such an inexpensive way to jazz up an outfit, so why not?
Simple Necklaces
I wear the same necklace everyday. It’s small and gold with a cross connected. While it’s not much of an accessory, it’s perfect to pair things with. For example, I sometimes wear my simple gold necklace, with a long silver and gold necklace, and a medium length cameo (see image below).
The secret to mixed gold jewelry: paint it with clear nail polish. Rings turn your finger green? Your gold necklace turning silver, copper, or some unidentified color? Not anymore! Before wearing the piece, just put a thin coat of clear nail polish over it and reapply every two weeks, or when you see needed. This makes your cheap jewelry last twice as long.
After Thoughts:
Get a small gold signature piece. For example, I have a tiny gold bangle I have not taken off since I bought it (the week before Christmas).
Remember:
All that glitters this season IS, in fact, gold!
