College’s #1 Fashion Faux Pas

This week, we have all been waking up to beautiful, cool fall weather. Compared to the past couple of blistering game days, it has been quite the treat. But the recent cool weather is not the only sign fall has made it to Columbia. Unfortunately, the appearance of college’s greatest faux pas has once again surfaced. Yes, that’s right. The oversized T-shirt, leggings, and occasional Chacos look is back and has hit USC’s campus by storm.

Let’s face it. We all have bad days and bad weeks filled with late nights studying for who knows what. But is that really a reason to disregard personal appearance and throw any presence of style out the window? I don’t think so. So here are 5 easy and comfortable looks that you should check out this fall.

1. Flannel

When the lumber jack look rose to fame a few years back, I was skeptical. But no more! Flannel is warm, fun, absolutely adorable, and feels great. Step out of the box, and invest in your favorite flannel pattern. There will be plenty to choose from so you might want to pick out a few.

2. Boyfriend Jeans

These perfect delights have been experimented with in the past, but there are a number of reasons why you should have a pair of these in your closet right now. Compared to the skinny jean every girl at every college owns, they are a little more unexpected. Loose, comfortable, and completely stylish, a white wash boyfriend will get you out of your comfort zone without making you uncomfortable. With these friends, who needs a real boyfriend?

3. Loose and Fitted

fitted and loose

This is a great example of combining extremes. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. The oversized sweater and fitted skirt definitely works. You also get to keep a little bit of your summer wardrobe around with this outfit which is great for Columbia’s cool mornings and warmer afternoons. Just make sure the skirt isn’t too short. We ARE ladies…

4. Stripes and Solids

stripes and solids

I love this color combination of stripes and solids, especially with the blue skirt. This outfit is both put together and extremely comfortable. It is, by far, our “sweetest” look, and embraces the ultimate southern style USC and South Carolina has to offer. But more than anything else, the belt is a must have.

5. Leather + Maxi

leather + maxi

When I first saw this unlikely combination, I immediately fell in love and couldn’t stop staring. That is the exact same reaction you will get when you rock your favorite maxi with the must have leather jacket. Similar to the Loose and Fitted look, this outfit allows you to keep a few of your favorite pieces from the summer around a bit longer. Maxis are just about the most comfortable things ever created. So you cant go wrong with this new idea.

I hope these outfits give you a couple ideas to think about for the fall. Just remember – your style speaks for itself. So what is it saying about you?
