Extending the Dominance

Beating Clemson is really nice in any sport. Beating them 5 out of the last 6 years is just incredible. That’s the feat that our men’s soccer team has accomplished with its 1-0 win over the Tigers Tuesday night in Columbia. Eric Martinez headed in a shot off a corner kick by Ryan Arambula in the 65th minute, and goalkeeper Alex Long made three incredible saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season. It was a very energizing win over the biggest of rivals.

But when you think about it, our sports teams have some pretty great streaks going against the boys from Pickens County. The football team will look to win its fourth consecutive game over the Tigers this November for the first time since the Eisenhower administration.

Clemson's DaddyWe all know about the dominance the baseball team has shown over the Tigers in recent years, knocking them out of Omaha in 2010 with two consecutive victories, then knocking them from this year’s NCAA Tournament, with some great regular season wins sprinkled in between. Heck, even the basketball team has two straight wins over these guys.

Man, it sure is great to be a Gamecock.
