Gabriela Herstik: Freshman, Fashion Merchandising Major, 18
Style: Macabre Meets John Steinbeck
Congratulations to Gabriela Herstik for becoming our first Friday Fashionista! Gabriela and her unique hipster style have stood out on campus and captured the attention of GR Fashion! We immediately fell in love with her, and we know you will too. Answering a few questions, Gabriela graciously shared a little insight into her personal fashion sense.
Who is your style icon?
“Alice Dullal. She’s the face of Chanel right now, and she’s also who inspired me to shave my head. I’ve had it for like a year and a half. I get a lot more inspiration from street style versus one particular person, though. Like Tommy Ton’s street style shots in between fashion shows. I also really like Alexa Chung, so British style.”
Where is your favorite place to shop?
“Probably Zara or Urban Outfitters sales rack!”
Describe something interesting about a particular accessory you’re wearing.
“My favorite bracelet is easily my black and gold skull bracelet. I grew up in LA and moved across the country when I was about 8, and my best friends from LA are still my best friends to this day. One of my best friends, Emily, who I’ve known for 16 years, got this bracelet for me as a graduation gift. It is literally the perfect piece of jewelry. If I was a bracelet, this is how I would look.”
What do you hope is trendy this fall?
”Black. Haha. It’s always trendy, I know. I really like the big, chunky sweaters over leggings too.”
Prints or solids?
“I’m picky about both. I really like floral, but I really like black. They’re both my favorite colors…well neither of them are colors actually…but I like a mix of those two together!”
What piece in your outfit could you not live without?
“I love high waisted shorts, and these BDG shorts are definitely a staple. I try to wear as many high waisted things as I can.”
As a freshman at USC, what fashion trends are you noting?
“Um, I haven’t noticed any trends, because I think people who aren’t interested in fashion don’t care about what they wear around campus, and people with unique sense of style have just that, their own sense of style. Probably sorority t-shirts and athletic shorts, if anything.”
