Confession: I’m an internet geek. When I was a kid, my dad gave me my first email address: legoboy7@juno.net. So naturally, when I stumbled across the oldest 100 .COM domains that were registered, I had to take a look.
The first domain ever registered is SYMBOLICS.COM. Personally wouldn’t have been my first choice, but one of the architects of the internet started a company called Symbolics and he gets first dibs.
The first 100 .COM domains
Interestingly, it took nearly 3 years to get to 100 registered domains. As much as the internet “took off” in the 90′s, it got off to a really slow start. Fortunately, many humble engineers created protocols and systems that could scale up to the billions of people that use the internet today.
