I’m excited to let you know that Garnet Report has been rebuilt from the ground up. While the site looks mostly the same, I assure you, it’s going to be a dramatic improvement in many ways.
Goodbye daily email
We found that our subscribers got worn out of receiving a daily email. But we believe that USC deserves the most fun stories. As a result, we’re completely rethinking the way we develop content. That means new authors, new topics, and a ton of new posts emailed weekly.
New Content – Sports, Fashion, and Random But Awesome
This semester we are laser-focused on three topics: Sports, Fashion, and Random But Awesome. We will be bringing the most fun coverage of each of those, and I’m excited for the author teams who will be hard at work producing it.
Sports will focus on the USC football team this semester, with game coverage and previews as well as team interviews and an exciting new feature from Garnet Report that will be called Garnet on Gameday. I can’t give details yet, but it is going to be an awesome tool if you’re not at the game. So get excited for that.
USC Fashion is new territory for us. Tori is assembling a team of writers right now to talk about the world of fashion as it applies to USC. Garnet Report will be doing some pretty cool features of fashionable people around campus and good stores in Columbia.
Random but Awesome features a collection of funny stuff. If you need a midafternoon laugh, this is it.
Commenting!
Last semester we disabled comments, but they’re back. Which means you should comment and join the community. I promise you’ll like it. Did you know that 95% of people who read never comment? Community means you get the chance to talk back. Do it!
Social networks
We camp out on two social networks: Twitter (@Garnet Report) and Pinterest (coming soon). Pinterest is going to be specifically for fashion, while Twitter is for sports and Random-but-awesome content. Be sure to follow us there to keep up with what’s going on.
Faster Site + Mobile
We’ve spent the summer fine-tuning the site to be much faster and easier to use on a phone. There are still some bugs to work out, but it will be a much better experience.
What you can do NOW
- Subscribe via Email for the topics you want. The email will come out on Monday starting in August.
- Follow us on Twitter
- Tell your friends to do the same.
Lots more coming, get excited and we’ll keep you posted. Very excited for the semester to start!
