Work Playlist: Imagine Dragons

You might’ve heard the song Radioactive on the radio or in the commercial for “Chicago Fire.” It’s pretty typical of recent vocally-driven electronic rock (reminiscent of “Fun.”). So naturally when I came to the Imagine Dragons’ album “Night Visions”, I was skeptical. The song is fun to listen to, but not particularly deep lyrically or musically.

If they’re putting out a single that sounds just like everything else, the album probably doesn’t have much meat.

But I was wrong.

It’s true that some of their tracks start pretty slowly. The meandering build takes out some of the punch of the album, but it makes for good listening while focused on work. In fact, I’ve listened to it twice/day this whole week.

The song “On Top of the World” has an entertaining clap track and an addictive chorus. The lyrics on “Every Night” are beautiful. and Bleeding Out is catchy. If you like “Fun.”, definitely check out Imagine Dragons new album Night Visions on Spotify.

Overall, I’d give the album 5/7. It isn’t going to be remembered as the definitive album of 2012, but nonetheless it’s a great introduction to a band that I think will be around for a while.

What’s your album this week?
